It has been 13 years since pop king Gary Barlow has been on a solo tour – but, for his adoring fans, his star-studded Manchester show was worth the wait.
Some had queued in the pouring rain for eight hours to see their hero perform at the Apollo.
The X Factor head judge, looking trimmer than ever in a fitted black suit, may have been without his Take That pals – but he brought out a string of surprise guests to entertain the crowd.

He belted out Back For Good with boyband JLS, showed some nifty dance moves alongside actor James Corden during a rendition of Pray and was joined on stage by Bolton funnyman Peter Kay – who sang the themes from Aussie soap Home and Away, 80s TV show The Littlest Hobo and cartoon Top Cat.
The surprise guests kept coming – with comedian Dawn French and fellow X Factor judges Tulisa and Nicole joining him for a festive rendition of Fairy Tale of New York.
And the crowd reached fever pitch when Take That pal Mark Owen appeared late on in the show for a stirring rendition of Shine.
